Patriots Claim Series With Win Over Monmouth



THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist Baseball Team improved to 2-0 to start their 2015 campaign with a 6-1 win over Monmouth on Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark.  For the second consecutive day, the Patriot pitching staff held the Hawks to one run and David Martinelli homered for the second time in as many days.
 
Making his debut in a Patriot uniform, sophomore, Landon Wilson tossed four and two-third innings, allowing just one run and scattering four hits, while striking out two.
 
The Patriots jumped on the board in the bottom of the third when Daniel Salters reached on a throwing error by Monmouth's second baseman, Grant Lamberton, allowing both Drew Turbin and Nash Knight to score.   The error would be one of six on the day committed by the Hawks.
 
Leading 2-0 in the fourth, Trooper Reynolds homered for the first time this year, delivering a solo shot over the wall in right center off of Hawks' starter, T.J. Hunt.  With the score 4-1 DBU in the fifth, David Martinelli followed suit with a blast to center, giving the Patriots' sophomore center fielder his second round-tripper of the year.
 
Holding onto a 6-1 advantage, the Patriots turned to their bullpen, where the trifecta of Chance Adams, Jay Calhoun, and Sean Stutzman combining to toss four and one-third innings of shutout baseball, while allowing just one hit.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
5 – DBU totaled five extra base hits on the day including two home runs and three doubles.
5 – In their first two games, the Patriots have already been hit by a pitch on five different occasion.
3 – Three Patriots had multi-hit days including Martinelli, Chane Lynch, and Nash Knight.
