DBU Claims Series With 9-4 Win Over San Diego

THE LEAD
Behind a 15 hit barrage and a stellar outing from Trevor Conn out of the bullpen, Dallas Baptist claimed the series against San Diego with a 9-4 win over the Toreros on Saturday afternoon at Fowler Park.  Picking up his first win of the year, Conn threw a career-high five innings without allowing a run, while at the plate, five different Patriots racked up multi-hit games in the victory.  The win stakes DBU to a 6-0 record, making it the team's best start in school history since the Patriots joined the NCAA Division I ranks in 2004.

Down 2-0 to San Diego (1-5) in the top of the third, the Patriots scratched a run across the board on a sacrifice fly by Tagg Duce that scored Camden Duzenack.  In the fourth, DBU tacked on three runs to take the lead, highlighted by a David Martinelli two run single to right.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Toreros pulled to within one on an Austin Bailey triple off of Patriot starter, Landon Wilson, and then tied the game on a sacrifice bunt by John Grimsley that plated Bailey from third.

With the game tied at four in the bottom of the fifth and runners on the corners with nobody out, Conn emerged from the bullpen for the Patriots.  On a 2-0 pitch to Bryson Brigman, a chopper to third baseman Nash Knight resulted in a double play and forced Spencer Dunlap to hold at third.  With two outs, Conn then induced a fly ball to center off the bat of Jacob Smith to get out of the jam unscathed.

In the sixth, DBU grabbed the lead on an RBI single by Justin Wall.  The base hit was one of three on the afternoon for Wall, who recorded his fourth multi-hit game of the year.  Three batters later, Chane Lynch laced a double to right to score two more runs and make it 7-4 Patriots.

One inning later, Camden Duzenack delivered his first career home run with a solo shot to left to give the Patriots a four run lead.

After DBU added one more run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Martinelli, Conn closed the door on San Diego, tossing a scoreless ninth.

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON TREVOR CONN'S PERFORMANCE
"Trevor was outstanding.  He came in and threw three pitches for a strike and he did it with a great presence on the mound and a quick tempo too, so it was everything we could ask for from him."

DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER – ON THE OFFENSIVE PRODUCTION TODAY
"We hadn't put together the at bats and the approach that we need to be at our full potential over the last few games and I thought today we made the necessary adjustments and looked a lot better at the plate."
