THE LEAD11 unanswered runs by the No. 11 team in the nation helped lift Dallas Baptist to a 12-6 win over UT-Arlington at Horner Ballpark on Tuesday night. After falling behind 4-0 in the top of the third, DBU (37-9) responded with a five-run third and a six-run fourth, as the Patriots cruised to their eighth consecutive victory. Five different players in the DBU lineup posted multi-hit nights, including a three-hit game from
Nash Knight, who homered for the second straight game.Â
Â
Down 4-0 in the bottom of the third, a
Justin Wall single off of UTA (20-27) starter, Justin Schnedler, put the Patriots on the board. Wall, who was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday, continued his torrid streak at the plate, as the redshirt-junior drove in his 17th RBI in the last seven games. A
Daniel Salters two-run double followed Wall's base knock to cut the deficit to one.Â
Tagg Duce would eventually cap off the inning with an RBI single to put the Patriots on top 5-4.
Â
In the bottom of the fourth, the Patriot offense erupted for five more runs before an out was recorded. An RBI double by
David Martinelli opened the scoring for DBU in the fourth, followed by back-to-back run scoring singles from
Daniel Sweet and
Drew Turbin made it 7-4. A
Justin Wall double plated two more runs, followed by another single from Salters that brought home Turbin put DBU up by six. An error by UTA first baseman, Levi Scott, led to one more Patriot run in the inning.
Â
On the mound, DBU's
Chance Adams came out of the pen in relief for starter,
Gavin Fritz, and worked two and two-third innings, allowing just one run and striking out five.Â
After UTA struck for two runs in the six to cut the Patriot lead to five, DBU's
Nash Knight homered to left to put the Patriots up 12-6. The solo blast was Knight's second home run in as many games for the senior third baseman who was playing in his 200th career game.
Â
Freshman reliever,
Dalton Higgins, would come out of the pen to work the final three-plus innings and shut out the Mavericks the rest of the way. Higgins allowed just one hit and struck out two, as the freshman right-hander earned his first career save.
