THE LEADThe Dallas Baptist Volleyball Team eased past the St, Mary's Rattlers 3-0 in their 2015 home opener at The Burg Center.
Brooke Manley had a match high 12 kills, while
Kaycie Bird registered 22 assists.
Dallas Baptist would start the first set of the evening by jumping out to a 5-1 lead. St. Mary's answered the Lady Patriots by putting together points of their own, including a four point run which tied up the set 8-8. DBU responded by notching five straight points to retake a 13-8 lead in the set. The Lady Patriots extended their lead by taking advantage of Rattler miscues to go up by as many as eight points at 21-13. A
Cooper Martin kill would seal set one for the Lady Patriots, winning 25-15 to take a 1-0 match lead.
In set two, DBU would face a more spirited St. Mary's squad, but the Lady Patriots had too much momentum from the first set to let the Rattlers gain a lead. Big kills from
Brooke Manley and
Sidnee Jo Fitzpatrick, who together amassed seven kills in total for the set, would establish dominance for Dallas Baptist. The Lady Patriots would win set two 25-19, going up 2-0 in the match.
Multiple point streaks early on by DBU would give them an early 10-3 advantage as they looked to put St. Mary's away in the third set. Seven kills by
Carly Hess in the set would make the route complete as Dallas Baptist won the third and final set 25-15, winning the match 3-0.
