DBU Defeats West Texas A&M 4-0

THE LEAD
Dallas Baptist defeated West Texas A&M by a score of 4-0 on Saturday at Patriot Soccer Field. The Patriots recorded four different goal scorers, all of which scored their first of the season. Junior forward Cecily Martinez opened the scoring for DBU in the eighth minute when she scored off an assist from fellow junior forward Rebecca Kernen. Martinez's goal was just the second of DBU's 11 goals this season scored in the first half.

The Patriots continued their second-half dominance on a goal by senior forward Ashley Cox in the 56th minute assisted by Lindsey Eccles. DBU extended its lead with goals by Ericca Everson in the 80th minute and by Bailee Berry in the 90th minute. Goalkeeper Jenna Ackerly registered four saves in the match for her fourth clean sheet of the season.

CECILY MARTINEZ - ON THE WIN
"I think today's game proved how hungry we are to win and we just went out there and did what we had to do."

COACH MICHELLE LENARD - ON TEAM'S DEPTH
"It proves our depth. We felt like we had good depth, and its really been tested over the last few weeks as we've dealt with a lot of injuries. We're scoring goals late in the game with a team full of freshman and new players. We have players that can be dangerous to score, but we also have players that can fill in in other roles."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
9 - Nine of DBU's 11 goals have come in the second half or later.
3 - Three Patriots (Martinez, Everson and Berry) scored their first career goals against the Buffs
4 - All four of DBU's victories this season have been shutouts.

UP NEXT FOR THE PATRIOTS
DBU begins a five-match roadtrip and opens Heartland Conference play on Thursday, October 1, against Rogers State in Claremore, Oklahoma.
