DBU Sweeps Adams State for First Win of 2015

THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist Volleyball Team defeated the Adams State University Grizzlies, 3-0 to gain their first win of the 2015 season. Tadam Mergener led DBU with a match high 11 kills and Lauren Nicks had a match high 12 digs.

DBU would gain control of the first set early as they jumped out to an 8-0, lead against ASU. Adams State would get on the board after a three point scoring steak, which would be countered by the Lady Patriots who went on to score seven of the next ten points and open up a comfortable,15-6 lead. From there DBU would continue to pull away from the Grizzlies with multiple point streaks, going up by as many as 15 points and eventually winning the first set by a score of 25-10.

After starting the second set down 2-1, Dallas Baptist would go on a six point rally to take an advantage over Adams State, 7-2. The Grizzlies tried to claw themselves out of their deficit, but would only be able to get within two points of the Lady Patriots as they remained ahead, 10-8. As the set continued with the score 14-11, DBU exploded to score five straight points to extend their lead, 19-11. Kills to end the set by Tadam Mergener would finish the Grizzlies as the Lady Patriots won, 25-15 and went up 2-0 in the match.

The third set of the evening would see both squads trading points early and often. ASU would take the lead with an 11-9 advantage. The Grizzlies would try to extend the lead, but the Lady Patriots were never far behind as the teams traded one and two point leads. With the score tied 22-22, an attack error by ASU and kills by Brooke Manley and Mergener would give DBU a 25-22 win, taking the match 3-0 and gaining their first win on the season.
