DBU Defeats Metro State in Extra Time

THE LEAD
Dallas Baptist required two extra time periods to down Metro State 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. In front of a crowd of 207 at Patriot Soccer Field, senior forward Emilie MacDonald placed a through ball right in the path of sophomore forward McKenna Namken, who finished the play off with a goal on an empty net.

Senior goalkeeper Jenna Ackerly kept the Patriots in the game and made 12 saves, the most since Kerry Edwards registered 10 saves against Metro State in 2013. The Roadrunners accumualted 12 shots on goal, but the DBU defenders forced multiple shots from long distances and difficult angles.

"Jenna played big time. In order to be competitive this season at a high level, we have to have a goalkeeper to keep us in it when we are playing good teams. She made a lot of saves, but two game-changing saves that kept us in it and gave us a chance to win."

NAMKEN - ON GAME WINNING GOAL
"I just saw the ball and I went for it. When the goal was open, I was just like 'Dear Lord, don't let me miss it.'"

11 - This week marks the first time in 11 seasons that DBU shutout its first two opponents.

DBU travels to Grand Junction, Colorado, to take on Colorado-Mesa on Thursday, September 10 at Walker Field. The Patriots defeated the Mavericks 2-0 in Dallas on September 11, 2014.
