Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DBU Upsets No. 23 St. Edward's, 84-71

THE LEAD
The DBU Men's Basketball Team extended their win streak to four as they knocked off No. 23 St. Edward's, 84-71 in Austin, Texas, on Monday night.  Tied at 30 going into the half, the Patriots erupted offensively over the final 20 minutes, outscoring the Hilltoppers 54-41.  DBU (10-4, 4-2) was led by Patrick Burke, who poured in a 22-point performance and helped lead a Patriots' offensive attack that scored 52 points in the paint.

Following a first half that saw DBU shoot 40 percent from the field, the Patriots shot 69 percent in the second half, as they drained 20-of-29 shots.  DBU's hot-shooting in the second half began when Myles Johnson connected on a jumper just nine seconds out of the break to give the Patriots the lead.  It would be a lead that DBU would never relinquish, as they extended their lead to double-digits when Burke connected on a three-point play to put the Patriots up by 12 with 12:06 on the clock.

DBU extended their lead to as many as 19 points with just under eight minutes to play.  On a night in which the Patriot defense kept St. Edward's (11-3, 4-2) leading-scorer, Ramir Burton in check with 10 points, the Hilltoppers were unable to trim the deficit to single digits.

Myles Johnson finished the game with his first double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.  Outside of Burke and Johnson, two other Patriots also scored in double-digits including Tim Simmons (15) and Amari Bryant (11).

DBU HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON WINNING ON THE ROAD AGAINST A RANKED TEAM
"I'm really proud of our guys and the effort they played with tonight.  We got a great defensive effort tonight that led to a lot of our offense, especially in the second half.  To be able to go on the road and get a win like this against a great opponent is big for this team as we move forward."

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Tonight's win over St. Edward's is just the Hilltoppers' third loss in the last two years at home.  Over that span, St. Edward's is 22-3 at home.  Their last two losses at home have come to DBU.
- Despite being the top free-throw shooting team in the Heartland Conference, DBU shot just 52 percent from the charity stripe tonight.
- With the win, DBU is in the midst of their second four-game win streak of the year.
