THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist University Women's Soccer team lost to No. 6 Colorado School of Mines in penalty kicks, 3-2, in the second round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Stermole Stadium in Golden, Colorado. Orediggers' goalkeeper Sam Zumbro saved three of the Patriots' penalty kicks, including one on
Geneva Martinez's attempt that gave Colorado School of Mines the victory.
After a winner was not determined through 90 minutes of regulation and two overtime periods, the two schools went to a shootout. After
Hope Koym saved the Orediggers' first attempt,
Emmy Niece missed DBU's first attempt wide right. Following another Koym save,
Lindsay McManus gave the Patriots a 1-0 advantage.
Anna Delerey evened the score at 1-1 in the fourth round, followed by Zumbro's second save on
Emma Durain's shot. After both teams scored in the fifth round of penalty kicks, Peyton Sanders scored to give Colorado School of Mines a 3-2 advantage.Â
