THE LEAD
The DBU Men's Basketball team fell to Texas-Permian Basin 75-63 on Saturday in Odessa, Texas, snapping the Patriots' two-game win streak. DBU (4-4) entered the contest averaging 85.4 points per game, but was held to a season-low 63 points, as the Patriots shot a mere 39 percent from the field in the loss.Â
Â
Three Patriots scored in double-figures with
Myles Johnson leading the way with 13 points, while
Xavier Ledet and
Boy Van Vliet each added 13 points. The Falcons' Daeshon Francis led all scorers with 17 points.Â
Â
After DBU jumped out to a 7-4 lead three-and-a-half minutes into the game, UTPB's Zeldric King connected on a three-pointer to tie the game at seven apiece. A layup by Francis at the 15:18 mark in the half would give UTPB (10-2) the lead for good, as the Falcons pulled away and carried a 39-30 advantage into the locker room at the half.
Â
In the second half, DBU was unable to cut into the double-digit deficit until
Myles Johnson delivered a three-pointer with 3:52 to pull the Patriots within eight points. DBU continued to chip away at the Falcons, closing to within five points after
Boy Van Vliet's layup with 1:25 remaining in the game. UTPB would quickly dash any Patriot hopes of a comeback, as they outscored DBU 7-0 the rest of the way.

DBU HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE TEAM'S COLD SHOOTING FROM THE FIELD
"You can't win on the road if you don't the little things well. We didn't do a good enough job rebounding the ball tonight against a great offensive team. We also picked a bad night to have a poor shooting night. We kept grinding and cut the lead to five, but could never get over the hump down the stretch."
