THE LEADBehind the second solid pitching performance of the day, junior left-hander
Colin Poche, led No. 26 DBU to a 7-3 win over the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Saturday night at Horner Ballpark. Poche followed a brilliant pitching performance by
Darick Hall in the first game of the doubleheader by allowing just one run over seven innings, as the Patriots won for the second time over the Warhawks.
Â
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second inning, DBU (13-5) tied the game in their half of the inning when
Matt Duce popped up with two outs, but ULM Â third baseman, Josh Faciane, could not make the catch and
Daniel Sweet raced home all the way from second base.Â
Â
Tied at one apiece into the fifth inning, Duce led off the inning with a double and eventually came into score on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by
Connor Hall. The Patriots'
Justin Wall then followed suit with a fly to center field that was deep enough to allow
Logan Sepanek to score from third.Â
Â
In the sixth, Duce would factor into a DBU run once again, as he laced an RBI single into right field. One inning later, the Patriots struck for two more runs, highlighted by a double from
Jameson Hannah that plated
Connor Hall.
Â
ULM (7-11) responded with two more runs in the eighth, before
Sean Stutzman came out of the pen to retire five straight and close out a 7-3 victory.
Â
DBU HEAD COACH, DAN HEEFNER, ON COLIN POCHE'S PERFORMANCE"Colin is just a great competitor and we saw that again tonight. He had great command of all of his pitches and was able to minimize their opportunities for some big innings, especially when he worked out of a bases loaded jam in the second and allowed just one run."
