No. 17 DBU Falls to No. 6 TCU, 2-0

THE LEAD
No. 17 DBU (27-12) fell to No. 7 TCU (29-10) 2-0 in a rain-shortened affair on Tuesday evening at Horner Ballpark. After three lightning delays in the seventh and eighth innings, the game was called in the middle of the eighth inning.

Reliever Jared Janczak (5-3) threw four innings and struck out two to earn the win. Starting pitcher MD Johnson (3-3) suffered the loss after giving up two runs on six hits in five innings of work. Durbin Feltman picked up his third save of the season after collecting the last two outs of the seventh inning.

DBU's defense shined early with a pair of double plays in the first two innings and a runner caught stealing by catcher Matt Duce in the third inning. With right fielder David Martinelli on board in the bottom of the third, the Patriots nearly broke the scoreless ballgame when shortstop Trooper Reynolds singled to left field, but Martinelli was thrown out on a bang-bang play at home plate.

The Horned Frogs got on the board first in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run homerun off the bat of Evan Skoug. DBU continued its defensive success in the fifth inning when Johnson picked off Connor Wanhanen at first base. Relief pitcher Landon Wilson entered the game in the sixth inning and struck out the side to keep the deficit at 2-0.
