Patriots Stumble at Oklahoma

THE LEAD
A five-run first inning by the University of Oklahoma staked the Sooners to a 5-0 lead over DBU and propelled Oklahoma to a 12-2 win over the Patriots on Tuesday night at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman, Oklahoma.  DBU's lone two runs came in the fifth inning, as a solo home run by David Martinelli and a sacrifice fly by Trooper Reynolds cut the deficit to 11-2.

After missing a scoring opportunity with the bases loaded in the first inning, DBU (18-10) surrendered five runs in the bottom half of the inning, as Oklahoma (15-14-1) touched Patriots' starter MD Johnson for six hits in the inning.

Two innings later, OU's Sheldon Neuse blasted his team-leading sixth home run of the year over the wall in centerfield.  Three Patriot errors in the inning combined with four hits by the Sooners led to a six-run inning for Oklahoma and opened up an 11-0 lead over DBU through three innings.

After Oklahoma added another run in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 12-2, DBU's Landon Wilson came out of the pen to keep the Sooners scoreless over  the final three innings.  In his three innings of relief, Wilson allowed just one hit and struck out three.
