THE LEAD
The Lady Patriots finished out the Hampton Inn-Vitational on a positive note as they put away Southern Nazarene in three sets. DBU has shown some quality progress through this season and it looks like they are making steps in the right direction. The Lady Patriots were led to a match victory behind Seniors
Sidnee Jo Fitzpatrick,
Hannah Ballew and
Holly Benoit. Ballew and Benoit led the ream with 14 digs each and Fitzpatrick recorded a match leading 10 kills. While setter
Strealy Sizelove continued her extraordinary play with another assist leading performance with 33.
Â
The first set was highly competitive as both DBU and SNU traded points until the teams locked up with tied scored 16-16. From that point, the Lady Patriots were ready to pull away and solidified this put tacking on six straight points. This gave them a 22-16 lead. With two late runs, Southern Nazarene put together a four point and three point streaks to outlast DBU but it wasn't enough as the Lady Patriots survived a close one with a 25-23 score.
Â
The second set was starting to play out just as the first with a 13-13 score but from that mark, DBU looked like a relentless team eager to get out to a 2-0 match lead. The Lady Patriots brilliantly orchestrated several runs to earn a convincing 26-16 set win.
Â
DBU was anxious to earn their first 3-0 match win this season and they let that fuel their play in this third set. The Lady Patriots jumped to a quick lead with a four-point run to begin the set. SNU competing hard and showed a lot of heart but nothing was going to take this set away and match away from DBU. The Lady Patriots won the set 25-17 and left the Hampton Inn-Vitational even with a 2-2
record.
