THE LEAD
Day two of the Oredigger Classic continued with the Lady Patriots battling against the Colorado Mesa Mavericks for game three of the tournament. There was no lack of effort as DBU came up short in three sets going 0-3 for the match.
Carly Hess led DBU with 12 kills, while sophomore
Hannah Hester had a team leading 14 assists.
Hannah Ballew put together yet another solid performance leading all performers in the contest with 13 digs.

The first set began with DBU holding the lead for the first four points and CMU tied it up at 4 apiece during a seven-point streak to pull the lead to 8-4. After the Lady Mavericks went on another run for six straight points bringing the score to a daunting 18-10 advantage. The Lady Patriots competed valiantly but CMU won the first set 25-16.

If you like good volleyball, the second set was a thing a beauty. Both teams went back and forth as each time gave an all out effort. The set had ten lead changes. Just when you thought one team would pull ahead the other would put together a run to reclaim the lead. By no surprise the game was tied up at twenty-five, which brought the game to a win by two finish where CMU outlasted DBU for the final two points. They won the set 27-25.

The impressive battle continued into the third set. DBU put together their runs but Colorado Mesa would come right back with runs of their own. The game was tied up three times up until an 8-8 score. From that point, CMU thought that they would run away with the game as they maintained a comfortable lead until reliance of Lady Patriots ignited a near miraculous comeback they tied it again at 21. CMU gained back their composure and earned a 25-23 win.
