THE LEAD
Behind a season-high 29 points and 11 rebounds from
JT Harris, DBU rolled past the Newman Jets, 102-81, on Thursday night at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kansas. Much of Harris' damage came from three-point range, as the redshirt-sophomore drained 7-of-11 shots from downtown in the Patriots' 21-point victory. Four other Patriots joined Harris in double-digits including
Boy Van Vliet (16),
Myles Johnson (13),
Patrick Burke (13),
Amari Bryant (11), and
Xavier Ledet (10).Â
Â
DBU took complete control of the game from the opening tip, racing out to a 17-0 lead in the first five minutes, before the Jets finally got on the board. The Patriots would end up shooting 56 percent from the field in the first half and carried a 56-34 lead into the locker room.Â
Â
The Patriots extended their lead to as many as 30 points when
Myles Johnson connected on a three-pointer with 13:01 remaining on the clock. Johnson's trey was one of 13 three-pointers DBU made on the night, as the Patriots shot 42 percent from beyond the arc.
Â
With the win, DBU moves to within a half-game of St. Edward's for first place in the Heartland Conference standings and extends their win streak to a season-high three games.
