THE LEAD
The Patriots six-game win streak came to a halt on Saturday at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas, as the Patriots fell 79-72 to Lubbock Christian. Trailing by as many as 14 points with eight minutes left in the second half, DBU (12-7, 6-3) mounted a valiant comeback that saw the Patriots tie the game with 4:44 on the clock. LCU (12-7, 6-3) would outscore DBU 20-13 the rest of the way though, giving the Chaps a sweep in the season series over the Patriots.
Â
Amari Bryant led DBU with a 15-point effort, while
Julian Miranda added 13 of his own.Â
Myles Johnson and
Patrick Burke also added 12 points each. The Chaps were led by Brennen Fowler, who notched his eighth double-double with a game-high 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Â
After falling behind 39-33 at the half, LCU opened up a 14-point lead on the Patriots when they went on an 11-0 run over a two-and-half minute stretch midway through the second half. DBU responded with a run of their own, outscoring the Chaps 16-2 over the next four minutes and eventually tied the game at 59 when Bryant connected on a three-pointer.
Â
DBU was unable to climb the mountain though, as a Ridrell Holman three-pointer sparked a 7-0 run for the Chaps and staked LCU to a lead that they would not relinquish. The loss for the Patriots snaps their season-high win streak at six games.

DBU HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON A TOUGH LOSS ON THE ROAD
"LCU came out with the edge and had a great game plan. We tried to grind and find answers, but couldn't seem to get over the hump. This can be a good learning experience for us and a chance to reset and get refocused. Now we have a very quick turnaround and have to be ready to bounce back and not let one loss turn into two."
