THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team (9-3-2, 7-1-2 Heartland Conference) defeated Newman (7-5-2, 4-4-2) 2-1 in the rain Saturday thanks to two goals by
Brittany Eccles.
The Jets rocketed out to a 1-0 lead with Rosa Urista-Chico's 10th goal of the year in the fourth minute. A two-hour, 14-minute lightning delay followed soon after.
Newman led until the 68th minute, when Eccles beat Ashley Sweetnam from 25 yards out with an assist from
Delaney Schmidt, who gathered in a loose ball. The game was called with exactly 16 minutes on the clock after Eccles unleashed a shot from the upper right side of the box to give her team the 2-1 win.
Kaci Parks assisted the game-winning goal.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - The Patriots still have the best record in the Heartland Conference at 7-1-2.
 - Eccles doubled her goal total for the season from two to four. She now leads the team two days after
Jayme Woodfill broke a seven-way tie with her third goal of the year.
 - The Patriots improved their road record to 3-2-1.
HEAD COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON HER TEAM'S PERSEVERANCE
"Today was one of the best examples of relentlessness I have ever seen from this team. We gave up an early goal and then had a lightning delay that lasted two hours. When we came back out it was pouring most of the game. We knew we needed and equalizer and just never quit. [I'm] so proud of the girls! They showed up big time today!."
