Patriots Outlast Hot-Shooting Mid-America Christian for Eighth Straight Win

THE RUNDOWN
No. 17 DBU picked up its eighth straight win Tuesday, holding off Mid-America Christian in a 91-90 overtime win. The Patriots improved to 8-0 , tying the best start to a season in program history.

DBU found itself in unfamiliar territory - playing from behind - most of the game. The Evangels jumped out to an early 12-0 lead, making five of their first seven shots. DBU battled back, eventually taking the lead before halftime. The two teams traded baskets for most of the second half, each leading by at least six. DBU built a 77-69 lead with 3:32 to play, but Mid-America Christian hit five of its final seven shots, including two of three from beyond the three-point line, to force overtime.

MACU made its first three shots of the extra period to take an 88-81 lead. Four points from Patrick Burke, who finished with a season-high 24, and a Conner Lidiak three erased the Evangel lead with 51 seconds to play. A jumper by Keyshawn Perkins gave MACU a 90-88 lead, but Jordan Manse gave DBU the final lead with a three-pointer off an assist from Lidiak.

Burke and Chandler Jacobs powered the Patriots on Tuesday. Each recorded a double-double, as Jacobs scored a career-high 33 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, and Burke added 11 boards to his 24 points. DBU needed every point it could get as MACU shot the lights out, making 51.4% of its three-point attempts. Five Evangels finished in double figures, led by Justin Bogle's 19.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

- The Patriots are 8-0 for the first time since 2008-09, when they made an NCAA Regional Semifinal appearance.
- Tuesday's game was the second time this season DBU had two players record double-doubles.
- Jacobs' 33 points tied him for the ninth-highest single-game total in program history with Amari Bryant's 33-point effort Feb. 22, 2015, against Oklahoma Panhandle State.

DBU HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON HIS TEAM'S COMPOSURE

"I thought they really kept their poise. It wasn't all pretty today. We didn't shoot the ball great until the end... Before that we'd really struggled. I think we need to be better, but I'm really proud that we kept our focus and continued to battle and didn't lose our heads there."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

.397 - The Patriots' .397 shooting percentage was their lowest of the season. DBU also shot a season-low .316 from three-point range.
.514 - MACU shot .514 from beyond the arc Tuesday. The Patriots entered the game having held opponents to .307 shooting from distance.
12:40 - DBU led for 12:40 Tuesday, marking the first time all season it did not lead a majority of the game.
7 - The Patriots outrebounded MACU by seven, their best rebounding margin of the season. DBU has won the battle on the boards each of the last five games.
