Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DBU Puts Away Newman, 104-74

THE LEAD
The Dallas Baptist University Men's Basketball team took down Newman University, 104-74, Saturday afternoon at the Burg Center in Dallas, Texas. After scoring 60 first half points, DBU eclipsed the century mark for the sixth time this year en route to a 30-point win over the Jets.

The Patriots had five players score in double figures and were led by Patrick Burke with 25 points on 11-16 shooting.  Julian Miranda compiled a career day, recording a school record 14 assists to go along with his 12 points and four steals. DBU senior, Jordan Pratt, also added 15 points and four rebounds, while JT Harris and Myles Johnson contributed 12 points apiece.

Newman started the first half by jumping out to a 6-2 lead, until Harris and Miranda knocked down a pair of back-to-back threes to spark a 10-0 run and take a 12-6 lead. The Patriots took control of the first half after a 16-4 run that put them in the driver's seat with a 30-14 lead with no plans on looking back. Newman continued to battle, but they could not seem to find an answer for the Patriots high octane offense, as DBU went into the half with a comfortable 60-38 lead.

With the combination of Johnson, Burke and Amari Bryant, DBU continued to dominate on the offense end at the beginning of the second half. With 10:49 remaining, the Patriots held a 79-55 lead. The script did not change in the final ten minutes, as the Patriots closed out the game with a 104-74 victory.
