THE LEAD
DBU fell to No. 10 Baylor, 4-1, on Wednesday night at Horner Ballpark, falling to 10-6 on the season.
Tim Millard, who went 2-for-4, was a bright spot in an otherwise quiet Patriot lineup.
Â
Alex Phillips (3-0) earned the win for the Bears after tossing four innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just one hit with four strikeouts.
Coby Weaver (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up all four runs on five hits in 3 1/3 innings of work with four strikeouts as well.
Â
After Weaver made quick work of the first two batters, he allowed a base hit to Shea Langeliers, followed by a two-run blast from Matt Menard. Baylor extended the lead to 3-0 in the second on an RBI double off the bat of Levi Gilcrease. After Weaver allowed two base hits, coach
Dan Heefner went to the bullpen for
MD Johnson, who loaded the bases with a walk. Johnson kept the damage to a limit, allowing just one run on a fielder's choice and ending the inning by forcing a flyout.
Â
DBU seemed to get things going in the fifth inning with a pair of baserunners with two outs, but the inning concluded with a
Jameson Hannah strikeout. The Patriots started a similar rally in the seventh as Hannah was pegged by Drew Robertson to load the bases with two outs, but
Tim Millard grounded out to third to bring the inning to an end. DBU avoided the shutout with a solo blast off the bat of
Garrett Wolforth in the bottom of the ninth, but the Patriots could not get anything else going in the inning.
Â
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - There was a regular-season record 2,013 fans on hand for the game.
 - Baylor moves to 11-0 on the season when scoring first and leading after six.
 - The last two runs Bears closer Troy Montemayor have come on solo homeruns by Patriots (
Darick Hall in 2016, Wolforth in 2017).Â
COACH DAN HEEFNER – ON HIS TEAM'S PERFORMANCE AGAINST THE BEARS' PITCHING
"Their pitchers did a good job. They've got some good arms and they threw pitches for strikes. That was one of the biggest things. We were in between our timing all night long. We got a lot of good pitches to hit and we weren't on time with them. That was disappointing. Those are guys we normally put great swings on, but tonight we weren't able to make that adjustment."
Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

40 – The Patriots have gone 40 games without being shutout.
