THE LEAD
DBU slugged their way to a 12-7 win over UT-Arlington on Tuesday night at Horner Ballpark behind 12 extra-base hits, including three homeruns.
Camden Duzenack went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI on a two-run homerun and three runs scored.
Jameson Hannah and
Luke Stratman also left the yard to fuel the Patriot offense.
Dalton Higgins (2-0) earned the win after tossing 1 1/3 innings of no-hit relief, setting down three of the five batters he faced on strikes. Maverick starter Jake Wilcox (2-1) suffered the loss after giving up seven runs on six hits to begin the contest.
DBU jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Hannah and Duzenack's long balls. In the second inning, Stratman hit the third homerun of the night to extend the lead to 6-0. The Patriots continued the rally as
Matt Duce doubled off the wall, knocking in
Austin Listi for a 7-0 advantage. UTA responded in the top of the third with a long ball of their own off the bat of Omar Salinas to cut the lead to 7-1. DBU answered in the bottom of the inning with another RBI double, this time by
Camryn Williams to make it 8-1.
Â
The Mavericks got one back in the top of the fourth after hitting three straight base hits, with the third bringing RJ Williams home for an 8-2 score. With
Landon Wilson on the bump for the Patriots, UTA trimmed the lead to 8-3 in the top of the fifth as Salinas scored on a double play. The Mavericks continued to claw back, putting a single run up for the fourth straight inning on a solo blast from Noah Vaughan. Following a walk four batters later,
Dan Heefner went to his bullpen again for Higgins, ending Wilson's 1 2/3 inning outing. With runners at first and second, Easton Johnson advanced 180 feet on a wild pitch and a fastball to make it 8-5. Higgins retired the next four batters, setting down three on strikes.
DBU regained a four-run advantage by way of a Duce sac fly, allowing
Jameson Hannah to tag up for a 9-5 lead. After Stratman singled home Duzenack to go up 10-5, Williams became the eighth Patriot to score in the game as the freshman and Stratman pulled off the double steal. In the eighth inning,
Kragen Kechely came out of the bullpen in relief of Higgins. After loading the bases with one out, Kechely allowed a two-run double to Salinas that cut the lead to 11-7. With the Mavericks threatening,
Gavin Fritz came into the game and forced the final two outs of the inning to escape the jam. In the bottom of the eighth, Duce hit the ninth double of the night to score Listi and extend the lead to 12-7.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - DBU's nine doubles are the most in a game since a 17-2 win over Baylor on March 10, 2015.
 - The Patriots are now 8-1 in 2017 in multi-homer games.
 -
Austin Listi moved to No. 3 all-time in DBU's Division I history with 56 career doubles.
COACH DAN HEEFNER - ON THE OFFENSIVE APPROACH
"It was good hitting conditions tonight, but I thought the guys had a really good approach. I thought they were confident up there and got their swings off. Timing was good. It was kind of one of those things where you start the game off with a home-run, so guys had confidence. Hitting is contagious. Tonight is definitely one of those times were it rubbed off on the other guys."
CAMDEN DUZENACK - ON BOUNCING BACK FROM LAST WEEK
"Dropping the first series of the year this weekend wasn't fun. Something that Coach Heefner kept telling us to work on was our timing at the plate, and I took that to heart. For me, it helped me see the ball a lot better, and seeing us put up a 12 spot means it helped a lot of us out so that was huge for us tonight."
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
12 - 12 of DBU's 14 hits in the win went for extra bases.
8 - Eight different Patriot batters registered at least one hit and one run scored.
10 - DBU's pitching staff forced UTA to strand 10 men on base.
