Listi Sets Home Run Record as DBU Wins Series Over Evansville

THE LEAD
The DBU Patriots (36-15, 15-6) capped off the 2017 regular-season with an 11-4 win over Evansville (17-37, 8-12), on a game that was called due to lightning at the start of the top of the sixth inning at Braun Stadium in Evansville, Indiana.  Austin Listi headlined a 12-hit attack, as the Patriots' senior hit his 49th career home run to become the all-time home run leader in DBU Baseball history.  The win over the Purple Aces is the Patriots' 18th victory in their last 22 games and handed DBU their sixth straight weekend series win.

For the second straight day, the teams traded single runs in the first inning. For the Patriots, Austin Listi walked with two outs, Matt Duce singled, and Tim Millard picked up the first RBI of the game by sending a two-strike single through the right side to score Listi. In the bottom of the inning, it was Kenton Crews who once again got the offense going for Evansville. Last night, it was a solo home run and, Saturday afternoon, it was a double down the left field line that put him in scoring position. Crews would eventually come around to score on a wild pitch to tie the game.

The Patriots responded with three runs in the second inning with an RBI single from Jameson Hannah and two-run base hit by Devlin Granberg before breaking the game open in the third with seven runs on six hits.

The big blast in the inning came off the bat of Austin Listi who belted his third homerun of the weekend, his 20th on the season, and the 49th of his career to set the all-time career mark at DBU. The 2013 Freshman All-American and two-time All-Conference selection has recorded double-digit home runs the last three seasons in a Patriot uniform after hitting nine during his first campaign. The 20 home runs this season is also tied with Missouri State's Jake Burger for the lead in the Missouri Valley Conference.

In the bottom of the fifth, Evansville struck for three runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Trey Hair.  With DBU leading 11-4 heading into the top of the sixth, lightning in the area forced the game to go into a delay.  After an hour and 15 minutes, the game was called due to inclement weather, giving DBU the series win over Evansville.
