DBU Drops Tournament Opener to East Central

THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots lose their Tiger Invitational opener after an impressive comeback by East Central University. DBU started out strong in this game and were able to take the first two sets. From there it was all East Central as they would go on to win the next three sets and the game. The Lady Tigers came into this game without a win on the season so they were going to come out ready to go, especially being the hosts of the Tiger Invitational Tournament. It's hard to say DBU took this game lightly since they did take the first two sets and almost took the third. They just weren't able to get the job done against this team that was fighting very hard for their first win.

The first two sets had good performances by the Lady Patriots. DBU jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first set and they were able to keep a consistent lead before winning the set 25-18. The second set started out even better for DBU as they took a 7-0 lead. They ended up never trailing in this set and would go on to win it 25-21. The third set showed that East Central at least wanted to take a set and not get swept in this game. It was a close set but the Lady Tigers were able to maintain a small lead throughout and took the third set 25-21

The fourth set was a bit more back and forth with the two teams trading points. The Lady Tigers were able to score four points in a row to take an 18-15 lead and they would never lose the lead from there taking the set 25-21. With the momentum on their side East Central jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the fifth set and that would be too much of a deficit for the Lady Patriots. East Central would hold onto the lead the rest of the way winning the set 15-9 handing DBU the loss.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Lady Patriots still showed the ability to win multiple sets in a row by taking the first two.
  • Despite the loss, DBU still had more kills, blocks, assists, and digs then East Central.
  • The early lead in the fifth set by the Lady Tigers was the biggest moment in the game. If DBU keeps things closer they may be able to prevent the comeback.
