Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Goal Pushes St. Mary's Past DBU

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team took St. Mary's to overtime in hopes of snapping a four-match losing streak, but the Rattler attack got behind the Patriot defense in the 95th minute and slipped the game-winning goal into the net.

The Patriots (3-9-1, 1-8-0 Heartland Conference) tied the game in the 58th minute on Ethan Martinez's first goal of the year after the sophomore forward outran the St. Mary's (7-2-3, 5-2-2) defense and beat the keeper. DBU was just 16 minutes from ending its losing streak, but Pato Botello Faz, the leading scorer in the Heartland Conference, found his way behind the Patriot back line and scored his second goal of the game.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - Martinez's goal was the Patriots' first since September 22.

 - Thursday night's loss was just DBU's third of the season decided by one goal.

 - David Velazquez recorded his first assist of the year.

HEAD COACH CHIP DUTCHIK ON A BAD BREAK
"I think it shows a lot about our character. St. Mary's is a very good team, and we showed up and played very well, and, in fact, had the better of the game and lost it on kind of an unlucky play at the end. I'm always proud of my guys, but these guys showed a lot of heart and character and showed what it means to be a DBU Patriot tonight."
