Patriots Close Regular Season with 3-0 Win at TAMIU

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Women's Soccer team finished the regular season strong on Saturday with a 3-0 win at Texas A&M International. The Patriots (11-5-2, 10-3-1 Heartland Conference)
 jumped on the Dustdevils (4-12-0, 3-11-0) early with a Brittany Eccles goal in the 10th minute and kept their foot on the gas en route to their 10th conference win.

Delaney Schmidt and Kaci Parks provided insurance goals one minute and nine seconds apart in the second half. Hope Koym made two saves, and Grace Johnson made one to preserve the shutout. Schmidt, Parks, and Melanie Castelan provided the assists for DBU.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - DBU finishes the regular season in second place in the Heartland Conference and will be the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament in Austin next week.


 - The Patriots have earned eight shutouts this season.

 - Schmidt's goal gave her the team lead on the season with eight.

"We played well today, especially after having to travel to Laredo on our off day. We are very happy with the way we finished the regular season and really feel we are playing well at the right time of the year. We are excited for the conference tournament next week and an opportunity to play for a championship."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

10 – DBU has won at least 10 conference games each of the last three years since the Heartland Conference adopted the home-and-home regular season format.

8 – Schmidt tied Ericca Everson for the team lead with her seventh goal of the year, the most by a Patriot since the 2015 season.

3 – Parks, Schmidt, and Castelan entered a five-way tie for second on the team in assists.
