Patriot Bats Come Alive in 10-1 Win Over Oral Roberts

THE LEAD
No. 25 DBU broke out offensively in a 10-1 win over Oral Roberts on Friday night at Horner Ballpark. The Patriots (7-5) scored 10 times on 10 hits and drew eight walks while striking out four times. MD Johnson (3-1) earned the win while striking out a career-high 10 batters.

Jameson Hannah led off the bottom of the first with a double and scored on Devlin Granberg's RBI single to open the scoring. Kody Funderburk added two more in the third with his first home run of the night off Josh McMinn (0-2).

DBU tacked on another run in the fifth when Tim Millard came home on a double play with the bases loaded. Oral Roberts (7-4) scored its lone run in the sixth on a home run by Noah Cummings off of Johnson, who finished with 10 strikeouts and two walks.

The Patriots put up six runs in the bottom of the sixth, starting with Granberg's second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field on the eighth pitch of the at-bat. Funderburk launched his second dinger of the night, a three-run bomb, 439 feet to center field. Jimmy Glowenke's RBI single capped off the inning.

Kragen Kechely struck out four of the nine batters he faced in his two and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief. MacGregor Hines struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - DBU struck out a season-high 16 batters. The Patriots have struck out 10 or more opponents in three straight games and five of the last six.
 - Hannah extended his hitting streak to 13 games, dating back to the 2017 season.
 -

COACH DAN HEEFNER ON JOHNSON'S START
"He overcame some stuff. I thought the first inning was a huge one, where he had guys on second and third and left them there. We needed some momentum, and I thought that started us off on the right foot."
