THE RUNDOWN
No. 25 DBU saw its four-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday in a 7-2 loss at UT Arlington. Patriot pitching struggled to finish off innings, as seven of UTA's runs came with two outs.
Â
The Patriots (23-11) struck first with
Matt Duce's solo home run in the first inning. The Mavericks (19-17) came back to take the lead with two runs on two hits and an error in the third inning. The UTA rally could have lasted longer, but Will Olson was thrown out by
Garrett Wolforth trying to stretch an RBI single to a double, ending the inning.
Â
Kody Funderburk tied the game and tied
Tim Millard for the team lead when he hit his ninth home run of the season in the fourth. UT Arlington took the lead back quickly, scoring three times on three hits in the bottom of the fourth.
Â
A two-run single by Maverick right fielder Aaron Fun padded the lead in the bottom of the fifth. DBU left at least two runners on base in each of the final four innings, including a bases-loaded end to the top of the seventh.
