Patriots Outlast TCU to Win Their Fifth Straight

THE RUNDOWN
After scoring at least 10 runs in each of its previous four games, No. 25 DBU defeated No. 23 TCU 3-2 in a low-scoring affair. Three Patriot pitchers combined to limit the Horned Frogs to two runs on seven scattered hits. TCU (14-11) used six hurlers in allowing its fewest runs in four games but suffered its fourth straight loss.

TCU struck first when a run came in on a fourth-inning balk by Jarod Bayless, but the Horned Frog lead would be short-lived. Blayne Jones tied the game in the bottom of the frame, scorching an RBI single to left field. Jameson Hannah followed with an RBI single that glanced off the glove of a diving Luken Baker at first base. Matt Duce drove in the Patriots' final run of the inning and the game with a single to right.

The Horned Frogs got a run back in the seventh inning when Conner Shepherd picked up an RBI double but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a triple.

MacGregor Hines picked up his first save of the year, finishing the game with three scoreless innings. He struck out four batters and walked none, ending the game with a comebacker to give the Patriots (17-9) their fifth straight win.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-  DBU snapped a four-game losing streak to TCU that dated back to April 26, 2016.
- Hannah extended his hitting streak to 27 games, while Duce made it seven straight contests with a base hit.

- Sean Boyle made his second career start Tuesday. His 3.1 innings pitched made for the second-longest outing of his Patriot career.

COACH DAN HEEFNER ON HIS PITCHING STAFF'S COMBINED EFFORT

"MacGregor's a great competitor. I don't think there's a guy who likes that situation better than he does. But I think all three guys did a really nice job for us. Sean Boyle gave us a great start and did all we could've asked of him. Bayless came in and did what he's been doing for us for quite a while now.
