THE RUNDOWN
No. 2 DBU kept its season alive with a 10-6 victory over No. 6 Illinois State on the second day of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Patriots collected 20 hits in support of MD Johnson, who threw 6.1 innings in his longest start in two months.
Devlin Granberg's solo home run to lead off the game put the Patriots (38-18) on top early. The Redbirds (22-30) took the lead back with a two-run second inning, but DBU answered with a two-run homer by Jimmy Glowenke in the third. Illinois State retaliated with a two-run blast in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead.
Garrett Wolforth's fourth-inning home run tied the game at 4-4. An inning later, an RBI groundout by Matt Duce put DBU on top for the final time, and an RBI single by Wolforth extended the lead.
Luke Bandy executed a squeeze bunt in the seventh to start a three-run rally, followed by an RBI infield single by Granberg and Jameson Hannah's RBI double. A solo home run and an RBI double helped Illinois State cut into the lead, but MacGregor Hines finished the game by retiring all four batters he faced to earn his sixth save of the year.
