THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots (2-1) defeated William Jewell 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-20, 25-19) in their third game of the Washburn Invitational on Saturday morning inside Lee Arena. Senior Kasey Holand led DBU with 13 kills and a team high six blocks, while sophomore Brooke Clark posted 12 kills, seven digs, and two service aces. Freshman Carly Earnest added nine kills and nine digs, while junior Strealy Sizelove registered 25 assists and 12 digs.
DBU pulled ahead 6-1 early, but William Jewell rallied, pulling within one point twice early in the match. The Lady Patriots would not trail again as senior Kasey Holand and senior Katie Nicholson each had a trio of kills surging DBU to a 25-20 win in the opening set.
In the second set, it was William Jewell that jumped out to a 7-1 lead before DBU rallied to even the match. Tied at 10-10, trio of kills from the Lady Cardinals forced DBU into a timeout. After the break, the Lady Patriots were unable to overcome William Jewell in a 25-19 loss despite the efforts from Katie Nicholson and sophomore Brooke Clark, each adding three kills of their own.
DBU controlled the third set without trailing. Brooke Clark and freshman Carly Earnest put together four consecutive kills extending the lead 14-9 in favor of DBU. The Lady Patriots ended the set on a 6-3 run defeating the Lady Cardinals 25-20.
In the fourth set, the Lady Patriots kept the pressure on William Jewell ahead 5-0 before the Lady Cardinals got on the board. DBU never trailed en route to a 25-19 win to seal the match.
