THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Volleyball team (7-10) fell in straight sets on the road against Tarleton State (14-2) Tuesday evening in Stephenville. Junior
Emma Eakin led the Lady Patriots with nine kills and four blocks, while sophomore
Brooke Clark added seven kills and a dig of her own. Junior
Strealy Sizelove posted a team-high 20 assists while
Merci Perry added 10 of her own.
In the opening set, DBU and Tarleton swapped points until it was knotted at 7-7. After the tie, Tarleton kept the Lady Patriots at bay throughout the set. Down 17-14, the TexAnns pulled ahead up 20-15 before a Lady Patriot timeout. After the break, Tarleton scored the five of the next seven points to take the first set, 25-17.
In the second set, DBU jumped out to a 10-9 lead that was erased by 2-0 run by the TexAnns making the score 11-10. The Lady Patriots made a run of their own finding themselves up 17-13. Tarleton surged back making the score 19-16 in favor of DBU. After the break, with the score knotted up at 20 all, but Tarleton scored the final points, led by senior Hannah McManus, to take set two 25-22.
In the third set, DBU struggled to get going as it trailed Tarleton 16-12. A service ace from
Alyssa Pevehouse and a kill from
Merci Perry weren't enough as the TexAnns pulled away rattling off nine of the next 14 points to go up 25-18, defeating the Lady Patriots in three sets.
