DBU Sweeps Newman

 
THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots (8-11) defeated Newman 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-16) on Saturday inside the Burg Center. Senior Kasey Holand recorded nine kills, while junior Emma Eakin posted seven of her own. Junior Strealy Sizelove dished out a team-high 18 assists, while senior Meric Perry added nine of her own. The Lady Patriots posted 33 kills as a team and finished with a total of eight blocks.

DBU pulled ahead early, but Newman rallied, tying the score at five all. The Lady Patriots went on a 11-8 run making the score 16-13, heading into a Jets timeout. DBU would not trail again as senior Kasey Holand and junior Emma Eakin each had a pair kills pushing DBU to a 25-15 win in the opening set.

In the second set, DBU took control after the first point and never trailed past the 13th point. The Lady Patriots extended their lead to 11 up 23-17, and steadily traded blows with the Jets. Junior Strealy Sizelove assisted senior Katie Nicholson for a kill to put the Lady Patriots within a point of sealing the set. A Newman attack error would lift DBU to a 25-17 set two victory.

DBU controlled the third set throughout, never trailing. The Lady Patriots ended the set on a 6-3 run defeating the Jets 25-16.
