On Thursday night the Patriots edged out the Mean Green of UNT in a heart-pounding overtime thriller, 12-11. Both teams filled up the back of the net all night long at an astonishing rate. It was 5-3 DBU after the first period in which five different Patriots registered goals. Both Spence Cowand and Christian Beckett had both goals and assists to start the night.
As explosive as the first frame was, the second period was full-on nuclear. The Mean Green and Patriots combined for ten goals in the middle frame. UNT scored the first four goals out of the break, but DBU would then respond with four consecutive scores of their own.
To the third period the game went, deadlocked at nine aside. Spence Cowand would complete his hat-trick to begin the frame, but at the end of regulation, it was tied once again at 11-11. No one would score in overtime, resulting in a final shootout.
In the shootout, UNT went ice cold, making only one of their first three attempts. The Patriots would rise to the occasion, however, and secure a huge victory as Anthony Blakely lit the lamp to win the shootout, 2-1.
DBU improves to 8- 7 and will have a couple of weeks off before they host the Texas Longhorns on December 6th and 7th at the StarCenter in Irving.
