Men's Basketball Opens Conference Slate Against Tarleton

COUNTDOWN TO TIP-OFF
The Patriots return to the Lone Star state to wrap up their four game road trip with a battle against the Tarleton Texans on Thursday night. It will mark the first conference game for the Patriots as they begin their inaugural season in the Lone Star Conference.

DBU is coming off of a 70-56 win over Ouachita Baptist. The Patriots relied on a late surge, going on a 22-8 run down the stretch to push past the Tigers. Carter Brown and Jonathyn Washington lead the way offensively, combining for 30 total points. Sophomore guard Julian Miranda also made his season debut, contributing nine points in 14 minutes.

Coach Blake Flicker and the Patriots are 3-0 and off to their best start since the 2017-2018 season. In that season, DBU won the Heartland Conference regular season and tournament titles and earned a berth in an NCAA regional.

PATRIOT STORYLINES
-DBU has 31 steals through the first three games.
- Senior guard Carter Brown is tied for eighth in the Lone Star Conference in rebounds per game with 7.0.
- Junior guard Tylan Dean has been a thief on the hardwood, averaging 3.3 steals per game for a total of 10 on the season. That ranks fifth in the Lone Star Conference.
- The Patriots have an average scoring margin of 9.0 points, scoring an average of 71.7 points per game.
-DBU shot a season high 51 percent from the floor against Ouachita Baptist, a number that they will look to replicate against Tarleton.


SCOUTING TARLETON STATE
- Tarleton is 2-2 after a resounding 90-67 win over Wiley College in their last game. Senior forward Josh Hawley led the way with 20 points.
- Speaking of Josh Hawley, he ranks eighth in the Lone Star Conference in scoring and third in total rebounds with 34 in his first four games. He is the reigning Defensive player of the year in the Lone Star Conference.
- The Texans are shooting 47.8 percent from the floor (fifth in the LSC) and 38.0 percent from beyond the arc (ninth in the LSC).
- Head coach Chris Reisman is in his second season as the head coach of the Texans and his 18th season overall with the University. Last season, Reisman took Tarleton to their 18th straight Lone Star Conference Tournament, the longest active streak in the LSC.

ALL-TIME SERIES
DBU and Tarleton are tied 1-1 in the all time series, with both match-ups being played in 2009 and 2010. Tarleton claimed the first meeting, but DBU won the last contest in January of 2010, 76-67.

UP NEXT
The Patriots will welcome Arlington Baptist to the Burg Center for Homecoming at DBU. Tip-off is Saturday at 6 p.m.
