THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Basketball team topped Tarleton by a score of 69-61 Thursday evening to secure a victory in its inaugural Lone Star Conference season opener. The Patriots defeated the Texans in Stephenville for the first time in program history and sweep their season opening road trip 4-0.
It took time for DBU to overcome a taller Tarleton squad. The Texans swatted shots and denied second chance opportunities by recording eight blocks and outrebounding the Patriots 39-28 on the glass. DBU countered by doing what it does best, stealing the basketball. The Patriots robbed the Texans 13 times for 18 points off turnovers.
Chandler Jacobs erupted midway through the second half with 24 points off 4-7 shooting from behind the arc to secure the victory.
Jacobs' 24 points and seven rebounds were both game highs. Redshirt freshman
William Heather had his best performance of the season with 11 points on 5-7 shooting.
Carson Hughes shot a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe and contributed nine points of his own.
