COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF
The Patriots head to Bellingham, Washington, for the third round of the NCAA Tournament. The Patriots, fresh off defeating third-seeded Colorado School of Mines in Dallas last weekend, will take on fifth-seeded Dixie State in the South Central Regional title. The winner will advance to face the winner of Point Loma and Western Washington on Saturday.
Thursday's match between Dixie State and DBU will be the first-ever meeting between the Trailblazers and Patriots on the pitch.
PATRIOT STORYLINES
- The Patriots are coming off a win in penalty kicks over Colorado School of Mines, their first victory in PK's in the 2019 campaign.
- DBU has advanced to the South Central Regional Final for the third time in five years.
- Including the Lone Star Conference tournament, Delaney Schmidt leads the Patriots with 10 goals and 24 total points.
- The Patriots have played in four overtime matches this year.
- DBU has not lost since November 16, 2018.
SCOUTING DIXIE STATE
- Dixie State came away with its first two NCAA Tournament wins in program history as the Trailblazers swept through the Colorado Springs portion of the South Central Regional two weekends ago.
- DSU opened the tournament play with a hard-fought result over No. 4 seed Texas Woman's in penalty kicks, 4-3, on Nov. 22.
- Prior to notching its first two tournament wins two weekends ago, Dixie State last qualified for the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament 10 years ago in 2009 as the Pacific West Conference champion (14-4-0/13-1-0 PacWest),
- Whitley Johns leads the team with 12 goals on the season, while posting a team high 27 points.
DBU AT THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The Patriots are 7-4-1 in the NCAA Tournament in the last five years. Last season, the Patriots fell 0-0 (5-4 PK) to West Texas A&M in the third round.
