THE LEAD
It took until the bottom of the eighth for DBU to regain the lead, but the Patriots swept a doubleheader from Houston Baptist on Friday, winning the second game 2-1. Bryce Ball's sacrifice fly in the eighth scored Evan Sandmann to give DBU (7-3) the edge.
Luke Eldred turned in his best start of the young season, holding HBU (4-6) to one run on three hits through six innings with seven strikeouts and one walk. He finished his outing by striking out the final four batters he faced.
The Patriots' first run came in the third inning after Augie Isaacson led off with a double and came around to score on a wild pitch.
Jarod Bayless earned the win in relief, entering in the seventh with one out and the bases loaded. The senior coaxed a strikeout and a groundout to escape that jam and finished the night with three punchouts and just one walk, allowing no hits or runs.

COACH DAN HEEFNER ON BALL's EIGHTH-INNING AT-BAT
"He did a great job, exactly what we want them to do in that situation. Our saying is 'First available.' You're not looking for a perfect pitch there. If it's there, hit the first pitch you can get the job done on. He executed it perfectly."
