THE LEAD
DBU extended its winning streak to eight games Tuesday with a 5-4 win over No. 18 Texas A&M at a sold-out Horner Ballpark. The Patriots (13-3) hit three home runs, and
Burl Carraway slammed the door to earn the save.
Luke Bandy drove in the Patriots' first run with a second-inning RBI single.
Christian Boulware extended the lead to 3-0 with a two-run home run to left center in the fourth inning. The Aggies (15-4) picked up an RBI double in the sixth, but
Bryce Ball and
Blayne Jones hit back-to-back blasts to extend the lead in the bottom of the frame.
A&M cut the lead to one with a three-run seventh, but
Kragen Kechely and Carraway combined to keep the Aggies off the basepaths in the final two innings. Kechely inherited a first-and-third, nobody out jam in the seventh but escaped with a fielder's choice, a strikeout, and a flyout. The junior righty pitched a perfect eighth with a pair of strikeouts.  Carraway coaxed a groundout to start the ninth and struck out the final two hitters to record his first career save.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - The Patriots' eight-game winning streak is their longest since the 2015 season.
 - The Aggies entered the game having allowed six home runs all season before the Patriots touched them for three Tuesday.
 - DBU has hit at least three homers in four of its last five games.
COACH DAN HEEFNER ON KECHELY'S SEVENTH-INNING ESCAPE
"That was the ballgame right there. They had runners at first and third with nobody out, and they didn't score. Super job by Kragen. And Burl was outstanding again at the end."
