DBU Looks to Defend Heartland Conference Tournament Title

COUNTDOWN TO TIP-OFF
DBU locked in the second seed in the Heartland Conference Tournament despite losing on Saturday 102-92 to Newman. DBU lead by four with 12:51 remaining in the second half, but the Jets shot 60 percent from the field for the game, and an impressive 65.2 percent in the second half. Ben Ayre led the way for Newman with a team-high 32 points.

Chandler Jacobs led the Patriots with 20 points on six of 15 shooting, while Jonathyn Washington added 13 points of his own. Conner Lidiak recorded 16 points on four of six shooting from beyond the arc. Julian Miranda added 13 points of his own with a team-high five assists.

BRACKET BREAKDOWN 
DBU will try and defend last year's title in Tulsa by advancing through a bracket consisting of all ten teams in the Heartland Conference. Leading the field, St. Edward's earned the No. 1 seed after going 14-2 during the regular season. They will face No. 8 seed St. Mary's, who finished 4-12 and lost a tiebreaker with Arkansas-Fort Smith.
 
DBU will play on Thursday as the No. 2 seed finished the regular season at 12-4. The Patriots will face the No. 7 seed Arkansas-Fort Smith, who also went 4-12 in Heartland Conference play.
 
On Friday, Lubbock Christian and Newman will play as the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds, respectively. Both teams went 11-5 on the campaign, with Lubbock Christian holding the tiebreaker with a victory over No. 1 seeded St. Edward's on Saturday.
 
Lubbock Christian will face No. 6 seed Oklahoma Christian, while Newman will take on No. 5 seed Rogers State. Rogers State finished the season at 8-8 in Heartland play, while Oklahoma Christian was 5-11.

PATRIOT STORYLINES
- The Patriots finished the season going 8-2, losing two of their last four games.

- DBU is currently ranked seventh in the South Central region, behind Angelo State at 17-7.

- DBU returns to Tulsa as the defending Heartland Conference Tournament Champions, defeating Oklahoma Christian 77-57 last season.

- DBU averages 83.4 points per game as a team, the second-highest scoring offense in the conference behind St. Edward's.

- Chandler Jacobs is leading the Patriots in scoring and ranks seventh in the conference in points per game (16.2).

- Jacobs also ranks third in field goal percentage at 53 percent on the year.

- The Patriots rank 16th in the nation in blocked shots on the season.

- DBU leads the Heartland Conference in three-point field goals at 39 percent for the season.

SCOUTING UAFS
The Lions are coming off a 88-73 loss to Oklahoma Christian. The Lions are 1-3 in their last four games.

- UAFS averages 75 points per game with four players averaging double-figures in scoring – senior guard Chris Crawford (16.1), junior guard Tyler Williams (13.5), junior guard Seth Hawley (11.2) and freshman forward David Ward (11.4). Crawford leads the team in assists with three per game.

- The Lions average 33 rebounds per game – about four less than their opponents – and junior forward Matt Morgan leads the team in rebounding with 6.3 per game.

- UAFS allows 75 points per game and forces 14 turnovers per game. Crawford leads the team in steals (1.7 spg), and Morgan leads the team in blocked shots (2 bpg).

ALL-TIME SERIES
After DBU's victory on February 9th, the Patriots only trail the all-time series by two games, at 10-12.
