THE LEAD
Texas Tech only scored on one swing of the bat Sunday night, but that was all the Red Raiders would need to advance to the NCAA Super Regional in a 3-0 win over DBU. A three-run home run by Cameron Warren in the first inning provided the only runs of the game.
DBU (43-20) got stellar pitching to keep it in the game, but the Texas Tech (42-17) pitching staff was more than equal to the task.
Cole Reeves took the loss in his first career start but was solid outside of the home run, which Warren pulled to left field on a 3-1 fastball that was located low and away.
Peyton Sherlin,
Kragen Kechely, and
Ray Gaither combined for five scoreless innings.
The Patriot offense was held to five singles in the shutout, four of which came from
Bryce Ball and
Andres Sosa.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Patriots have been to the regional final in each of the last five seasons.
- DBU is one of two teams to have won 40 games in each of the last six seasons, with Florida State one win away from making it three.
- The Patriots' 43 wins in 2019 are their most since 2016.
COACH DAN HEEFNER ON HIS TEAM'S RESILIENCE THROUGHOUT THE SEASON
"First I'd say I'm incredibly proud of this team that we had this year, the amount of turnover we had and for them to once again win a conference, go to regional, make it this far in the regional, couldn't be more proud of them and the seniors we had on the team."
