Basketball Inks Alex Holcombe

DBU Basketball announced the signing of 6'9" forward, Alex Holcombe from Youngstown State University on Monday. Prior to Youngstown, Alex was an impact player for Coach Grant McMillan at Panola College. While at Panola, Alex led the NJCAA in blocks with 124 through 32 games. He also averaged 7.6 points on 63.6% FG and 5.6 rebounds per game.  Due to NCAA transfer rules, Alex will need to redshirt the 2019-20 season.

"Alex has a great ability to protect the paint and absorb contact," McMillan said.  "He loves basketball and is passionate about the game, and he is a fabulous young man."

In high school, Holcombe played for Coach Gary Nichols at Fort Bend Marshall, where he earned First Team All-District, All Defensive and All-Region honors. At that time, he was named an Honorable Mention Top 10 defender in the state of Texas.

"Alex adds another dimension to our program, and will be an outstanding player for us in the future," DBU Head Basketball Coach Blake Flickner said. "We are looking forward to developing his game to maximize his talent. I love his enthusiasm for the game, and he will fit in very well at DBU. His father played at Baylor, and was a standout player. I have really enjoyed getting to know Alex and his family, and we are excited to welcome him to our DBU Basketball family."
