DBU (7-4) (1-1) fell to St. Edward's (6-4) (0-2) Saturday afternoon at the Burg Center. Freshman
Bailey Hebert got her first start as a Lady Patriot.
In the first set, DBU got out to an early 6-2 lead over the Hilltoppers, but St. Edward's rallied back to tie the game 8-8. Both teams exchanged leads for the next three points, but it was DBU who was able to pull ahead to lead 15-12 after an error and a bad set by St. Edward's. The Hilltoppers fought back to tie the game again at 16-16 and matched every point by the Lady Patriots, but it was St. Edward's who pulled ahead at 24-21. A bad set by DBU gave the Hilltoppers the edge to win the first set.
It was St. Edward's who got out to an early 5-2 lead in the second set and maintained that lead for the first eleven points. A 5-0 run led the Lady Patriots back to a tied game at 11-11, but the Hilltoppers didn't let up matching the next six points DBU put on the board. A service error gave St. Edward's an advantage to force a DBU timeout at 17-15. After the break the Hilltoppers kept their momentum to go on a 4-0 run to force another DBU timeout. DBU came back with a kill by
Lexie Houston to bring the score to 21-17, but the Hilltoppers kept up the pace to win the set 25-19.
The Hilltoppers broke open the third set with a 7-1 run and maintained their drive for the next five points. St. Edward's led 16-5 after three errors by DBU to force the first timeout of the set. The Lady Patriots struggled to get ahead allowing a 7-0 run by the Hilltoppers to take the final set of the match, 25-9.
