Baseball America announced their Preseason All-America Team on Monday and DBU's
Burl Carraway was tabbed a First Team selection as a relief pitcher. The publication polls Major League organizations' scouting departments to vote on the team and asks that they make their selections based on performance, talent and professional potential, making it one of the most unique preseason honors in college baseball.
Carraway, a junior from College Station, Texas, projects to be one of the top prospects in the nation entering the 2020 season. The hard-throwing lefty features a fastball that lives in the mid-90s and counters with a sharp curveball.
Carraway is coming off a sophomore season that saw him total a team-high six saves, a 2.81 ERA, and strikeout 72 batters in 42.1 innings. His 15.72 strikeouts per nine innings also ranked as the second highest average in school history.
The Patriots' standout reliever also became the first player in school history to earn a roster spot on the U.S. Collegiate National Team. In five appearances with Team USA last summer, Caraway did not allow a run versus international competition.
Today's announcement marks the third Preseason All-America Team that Carraway has been selected to. Earlier this month, he was named a Second Team selection by D1 Baseball and Perfect Game tabbed him to their Third Team.
Carraway and the Patriots open their 2020 season on Friday, February 14 when DBU hosts South Dakota State at Horner Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
