Lady Patriots Take Title, Men Place Sixth at Conference Championship

THE RUNDOWN
The No. 4 DBU Women's Cross Country team raced its way to a conference title during Saturday's Lone Star Conference Championships in San Angelo, Texas.

The Lady Patriots earned their fourth consecutive win of the fall season with a 25 point total, which marked the program's lowest score since 1996.

In what has become expected during the 2020 season, DBU placed a grouping of Lady Patriots on the top 15 leaderboard. Madison Brown and Marissa Insinna paced the women's team, finishing second and third, respectively.

DBU's Leslie Filorio and Emily Mackel finished fifth and sixth, while Jenna Thorman (9), Analynne Klotz (11), and Martha Brown (15) rounded out the top 15.

In total, the No. 4 Lady Patriots placed nine runners in the top 25 for a total time of 1:52.51.

The No. 13 Patriots concluded Saturday's competition with a sixth-place finish and 2:10.19 total time.

Noah Metzger led the way for DBU, finishing in the 14 spot with a time of 25:37.75. The senior was joined in the top 20 by Preston Williamson (17), as the Patriots placed lower than second overall for just the first time this season.

JACOB PHILLIPS ON THE WOMEN'S CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
"The ladies came out and took care of business. We had seven girls finish in the top 15. We are a top 10 team in the country right now, and we showed where we're supposed to be in this conference."

JACOB PHILLIPS ON THE MEN'S TEAM
"We thought we'd be top three or top four, but we're young, and we ran hard. It was a good day."

UP NEXT
