No. 18 Patriots Break Out Offensively to Clinch Series Versus Arkansas State

THE LEAD
DBU exploded offensively to defeat Arkansas State 12-4 in the finale of a three-game series at Horner Ballpark on Sunday. In a game that saw five lead changes, the Patriot offense tallied 15 hits, eight for extra bases marking a season-high. The win clinches the third consecutive series of the season.

Dominic Hamel threw five innings in his third start of the season. The junior righty struck out seven batters while surrendering five hits and three earned runs.

Arkansas State struck first as Liam Hicks belted a solo homer to right field in the third inning. The Patriots answered in the bottom of the frame as Christian Boulware hit his first homerun of the season followed by a fielder's choice by Austin Bell scoring Ryan Wrobleski.

The Red Wolves would score twice in the top of the fourth on a Jaylon Deshazier two-run shot. Jeffrey David would double home Blayne Jones in the bottom of the fourth followed by an RBI groundout by Boulware to take a 4-3 DBU lead. Colten Nix would notch an RBI single to tie the game in the top of the sixth.

The fifth lead change of the game would swing in the Patriots favor in the bottom of the sixth as Dan Pruitt blasted a two-run homer to left-center. Jimmy Glowenke hit his first round-tripper of the season in the bottom of the seventh to give DBU a 7-4 lead.

Blayne Jones ripped a three-run double to blow the game open in the eighth inning, followed by a Jeffrey David RBI single and a Trevor Hatton RBI groundout.

Kragen Kechely was stellar in relief of Hamel, striking out two of the five batters he faced in 1.1 innings to earn the win. Peyton Sherlin pitched 1.2 innings of no-hit baseball striking out three, while Cole Reeves pitched a perfect ninth.
