THE RUNDOWN
DBU (0-2) dropped the second match of the series to UT Tyler (3-0) in three sets on Wednesday evening in Tyler, Texas.
Bailey Hebert and
Alyssa Pevehouse registered double digit digs, while Hebert led the team with 9 kills.
Â
DBU replicated the start of last night's opening set, getting up 3-0 early before evening out into a back-and-forth competition. A timeout with UT Tyler up 15-13 at the halfway mark gave both teams a break, and DBU found the energy needed to stay on pace. Hebert stayed active offensively, and her timely kill off a
Kayla Brock feed helped extend the opening frame while UT Tyler sat on set point at 24-23. The home squad ultimately prevailed, as UT Tyler took the opening set 28-26.
UT Tyler continued to apply pressure in the second set, holding a small lead throughout the first half. A
Macey Winburn dish to
Savannah Whitfield on the outside yielded a much-needed point and brought DBU back to within 3 at 14-11. That was as close as DBU would get, as the UT Tyler offense caught fire and didn't look back en route to a 25-15 win.
Â
An 8-0 surge from UT Tyler put DBU in a hole quickly to open the third set. One of Brock's team-high 16 assists went to
Carly Earnest on a line shot from the ride side, bringing DBU to back within 11 points. Another UT Tyler run put the match away, and DBU fell 25-9 to close out the match.
