THE RUNDOWN
The No. 5 DBU Women's Soccer team rolled to a 7-0 win over A&M-International Saturday afternoon at Patriot Soccer Field. Six different Patriots punched in a score as DBU won its eighth consecutive match and clinched its third straight Lone Star Conference regular-season title.Â
DBU's offense set the tone seconds into the match in one of its most commanding performances of the season. The Patriots quickly cornered the Dustdevils in their defending third and hardly allowed the ball to cross back across midfield for the rest of the half. The downpour of goals began in the sixth minute, as Ashley Merrill pounced on a deflected shot attempt for the 1-0 score.Â
Following the score by Merrill, DBU fired off a three-goal outburst with Delaney Schmidt, Abigail Olmos, and Jenna Patterson all scoring between the 19th and 29th minute. Then, in her best game of the season, Ashley Perez headed in a perfectly executed corner kick from Gabrielle Heller to send DBU into the locker room up 5-0.Â
In the second half, Perez would be the first Patriot on the scoreboard when she connected with Sophia Schrock to head in another corner kick. . With the game firmly out of reach at 6-0, DBU's reserves continued to push. In the 87th minute, Kaleigh Naizer scored the 7-0 goal off a cross from Emily Bates to add the finishing touch to a statement win from the Patriots.Â

COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON THE WIN
"We are really proud of the team today and very happy with the result. We knew that if we won today, we would have a chance to secure the No. 1 seed in the Lone Star Conference and maybe even win it, and with another result going our way today, we were able to do just that...It was a strong win; we had six different goal scorers come out and help us make a statement and establish ourselves at the top of the conference. This is a very difficult conference to be on top of. I think this is one of the top conferences in the country, and that's why we never take winning for granted.Â
