THE RUNDOWN
No. 19 DBU grabbed its second win in as many days, defeating Colorado Christian, 75-66, in the Lone Star vs. Rocky Mountain Athletic Challenge. The Patriots (2-0) leaned on a 23 point halftime lead and 34 bench points to fend off the Cougars (0-2) in the second half.Â
An opportunistic defense and poor shooting from Colorado Christian gave the Patriots a lead they would never surrender. The Patriots forced 17 points off turnovers in the first half of action as the Cougars sputtered into an opening 1-10 shooting performance. A barrage of bench points from Grayson Buehler (10 points) and Cameron Kahn (20 points, six rebounds) fueled the offense as CCU entered halftime shooting 24 percent from the floor in a 43-20 deficit.Â
Colorado Christian made its first four shots to open the second half and cut the DBU lead to 11. The Cougars' improved shooting and their continued dominance on the glass would keep them within striking distance for the remainder of the contest. Kahn scored 11 of his team-high 20 points after halftime to keep DBU ahead of CCU's Ross Williams and his game-high 22 point outburst. Carson Hughes and Austin Garner combined for 21 points on 6-14 in DBU's fourth consecutive win over Colorado Christian.Â
