THE RUNDOWN
No. 5 DBU dropped a 1-0 contest against Angelo State in the Lone Star Conference Championship Sunday afternoon at Patriot Soccer Field. DBU (17-4) suffered an own goal in the fifth minute of action that provided ASU (16-4-2) a lead it never surrendered as the Rambelles earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.Â
The Patriots controlled possession for a majority of the match. DBU captured the game's opening momentum until a back pass slipped under the foot of goalkeeper Hailey Brown to spot the Rambelles the game-winning goal. The Patriots outshot the Rambelles 22-13 on the day but ran into a fortress in ASU goalkeeper Kira Miller. The reigning Lone Star Conference Goalkeeper of the Year grabbed a season-high eight saves, deflecting two shot attempts in the final 90 seconds to hand the Rambelles their second straight conference championship.Â
